Very soon we're about to hit a long stretch of exclusively Australian tracks, today's has 7 of the 10, the next one following ( #115 ) is all from OS, but after that it's a big stretch of Aussieness....

Starting today with a b-side for Pel Mel ( the other side of Blind Lead The Blind ), for a few reasons, mostly that the a side is on the Out Of Reason album and that I prefer the b-side Water anyway ( not to be confused with Head Above Water, the single released after this one by Pel Mel ). While we're on the subject of b-side versus a-side, same case with the Shrinking Violets ( it's the other side of Everything )...again a purely personal aural selection.

Second out of the gate(s) today is Tiny Town ( aka Tinytown ) their 3rd single, the Red Eye re-issue of Steve Kilbey's first solo single and then The Cannanes from ( my usual hazy memory and too lazy to look it up mind' eyes ) their 3rd 7" ( not forgetting the cassettes in & around it ) ( one day I'll get the cassettes sorted....when I'm about 80)

The others in the track list are easy to figure I hope...and I have to plead forgiveness - citing my often alluded to early senility / memory loss for the lack of info on AT Wells, other than it was a 3-track Waterfront ep...I'll try and channel my inner 1985 and get back to you if anything springs to mind !!

Hi again, firstly it's a French radio promo from Mood Six, the normal release being a 12", then out of Canberra it's Young Docteurs ( Mk II ), the 2nd single from The Chairs ( UK ) and then what I consider to be The Hit Parade's best.

3 Aussie tracks follow - 2 Perth bands on the Easter Recs label and another single from ( Curious ) Yellow ( who we really recently played on #109 ), though this time not produced by Steve Kilbey.

Then the Jane song which I have burnt in my head from another version of it - eg the Opus III version, Third Circle from Leeds and latter day Railway Children.

Accidentally Ozzie Street again today, firstly with a Johnny Young penned song about Normie Rowe sung by Ronnie Burns ( a big triple there ), then a recording session I would have liked to see - The Gobs & The Birthday Party together as The Tuff Monks.

Another track from Vesania the Ves 8 album, the Martin Armiger produced Kevins ( from the mini album Club Of Rome ) ( with another Kevins single in the pile coming up soon by the way ), an in between albums single from the Enz ( produced by Eddie Rayner ) & one of the Rockie's best ( with help from the late great Robert Racic ).

I said I'd be back really quickly...

I looked at the box and figured there's no point them sitting around my floor doing nothing...so here we go again

Kicking off with Dennis Bovell producing Orange Juice, a non album single, then the promised ( on #101 ) 3rd single from Serious Young Insects, this time featuring lead vocals from drummer Mark White ( see also The Champagne Edge on #70 ).

The Monkey Run from Manchester also featured earlier on #95, todays is the 2nd single.

Fruit Pastilles were on the same label ( Native Tongue ) as Serious Young Insects, only by means of a compilation called "Undiscovered" which was put out by Melbourne radio station 3XY featuring various Melbourne bands, the single today has "Product" by China on the other side, also on the comp ( check out Discogs for more info on this comp )

The Spy v Spy one is the first single ( via Green Recs ) ( way back in the day, before they added the extra "v" to their name ! ). The Plunderers is their second single ( on a Citadel offshoot, not surprisingly under the guidance of a certain Mr R Younger ). Sadly Melbourne legend Peter Lillie is no longer with us having passed away late last year. Although it's not mentioned anywhere on the single seems Roland Howard, Mick Harvey & Phil Calvert all played on the record.

Starting with a solo single from Karen Marks, best known for her vocals on "Love By Numbers" by Ash Wednesday ( who produced this single ), then the famous duo of McLennan & Kilbey ala Jack Frost, Tall Tales & True after they signed to Roo Art, then Dubbo's #1 Best Ever Export from their "Beautiful" LP, some more Greasy Pop ( as promised in #106 ) from The Dagoes ( a 1992 reissue actually ) & more from Monsieur Kilbey and his usual mates from "Seance".

And then a final four which could be from an air check straight out of a Saturday Night with Shayne Collier on 2SER FM....ultra mods Young Modern, Perth's Boys ( 3rd single from their self titled LP ),  ( The ) Numbers and a Graham"Buzz" Bidstrup produced 7" ( and album. ie "39-51" ) ( I love the squeaky / wheasy rasp in Annalisse's voice in this  ) ( I nver realised she was such a "swamp chick" ) and finally a song from the Suddenly" album from The Sports, a US only Promo - and yes No Mama No is the A-side ( according to the etchings in the runout groove ) with Strangers On A Train the B-side of this one.

The first of two all Aussie mixes up today, first up The Eyes and the second single from their Tube Vision LP ( after City Livin' ), Sydney band Vixen,  3 tracks on the Polygram  ( local ) label "Result Records" - Colin Stead ( ex Buffalo /Sweet Wine /Lloyd's World ) and his only solo single, and songs from the debut releases from The Eighty Eights ( their "Live Pop" 4 track ep - as the side says a series of live recordings ) and The Jukes from the split "Top Of The Class" Ep with The Motivaters.

Also Ward 13 and the first single from their "Flash As A Rat" LP, the Aliens debut 7 ( also on their 'Translator" LP ) , Ves 8 from their "Vesania" LP and The Little Heroes, again a first single from their debut "Little Heroes" album, though actually their 2nd single ( after the indie version of She Says ) on the Giant Recording Company label, which was setup by Peter Dawkins ( as far as I can remember Matt Finish the only other artist on the label ). Finishing off with Adelaide's July 14th on  Greasy Pop ( more of that label ) on # 107, which is also published today...

Starting off today with a release on the mighty Au Go Go records from Scapa Flow ( and that's the Sydney band of the early 80's not the later Swedish band of the same name ) and their first single. 

The Box were Sheffieldians ( another first single ) was a band made up of early members of Clock DVA. Berlin Blondes were Glaswegians, one of about three singles they had ( from fading memory ). They were plugging them in Australia for some reason ( probably more on Sounds with Donny Sutherland than on Countdown ), this single was produced by Mike Thorne who had been working mostly with Wire up to that point. Mi-Sex I'm sure need no introduction at this point, the track today being the title cut from their 2nd album.

The Bodysnatchers obviously part of the 2 Tone scene ( this single produced by Jerry Dammers ), an all girl group, probably better known under that name for their earlier single "Lets Do Rock Steady", and who were in fact the writers of "The Boiler" with the Special AKA, the "Rhoda" on that single being  Bodysnatchers member Rhoda Dakar. This page on the 2-Tone site has a more coherent history of the band for ya.

After that not much more that's not overly self evident, other than the usual Sheffieldian & Liverpuddlian connections and the fact that Peter Wilson had a production hand with both Mssers Weller & Howard on their respective singles.
